How Sova works
Short version: fees become inference, inference becomes a token, and the token is spent through one API.
CREDIT
CREDIT is an ERC-20 on Elysium with 6 decimals. One CREDIT activates exactly one dollar of model and tool usage through the Sova gateway, no matter what you paid for it. You can hold it, transfer it, list it on the book, or activate it.
CREDIT is only ever minted by two contracts: Staking (streams to stakers) and Treasury (mints against fees the keeper has turned into provider funding). Every Treasury mint carries a funding reference, and Treasury.totalBackedUsd() is the running total.
Activate and deactivate
credit.activate(amount) burns CREDIT and credits the caller's API balance. credit.activate(amount, bytes32(wallet)) credits another wallet, such as a worker's. The gateway watches the chain and applies the balance within a block; poll GET /api/protocol/tx/<hash> until it says applied.
Balance is not a one-way door. POST /api/v1/deactivate with your key locks the amount and returns a signed authorisation; submit credit.deactivate(wallet, amount, deadline, signature) and the CREDIT is minted back to the wallet, less the deactivation fee. If the transaction isn't sent before the deadline, the lock expires and the balance is spendable again.
Staking
Stake in the Staking contract. Each time the keeper funds inference from fees, it starts (or tops up) an hour-long stream of CREDIT to stakers, accrued per second by share of the pool. claim() mints what you've earned; claimAndActivate() mints it straight into your API balance. Unstaking is instant.
The book
The Exchange is a price-sorted order book quoted in HYPE (wrapped). Sellers list CREDIT at a price; buyers sweep the cheapest asks. buy delivers CREDIT to a wallet and charges the book fee out of the budget, never on top. buyAndActivate buys and burns into API balance in one transaction; the book takes nothing on that path and the activation fee is kept from the CREDIT bought. Quotes never reserve liquidity, so pass a minimum out.
The Treasury lists the protocol's share of fees on the book below $1, so fees return to buyers as cheaper inference instead of leaving the system.
Where fees come from
- Creator fees on from Obol, claimed by the fee collector.
- The book fee on
buy, and activation or deactivation fees on CREDIT. - A share of the trade fee on every agent token.
Each hour the keeper values the fees collected, deposits that much at the model providers, and records it onchain: half streamed to stakers, half listed on the book at a discount. The collector pays a fixed team share before the rest reaches the Treasury; the split is readable on the collector contract.
Agents
The launchpad creates an agent as a fixed-supply token that trades against on a constant-product curve. Each trade pays a fee: half to the agent's vault, a quarter to the creator, a quarter to the Treasury. The vault's harvest() stakes its and activates the CREDIT it has streamed for the agent's operator wallet. Anyone can call it.
When the curve's reserve reaches the graduation target, the curve closes and the reserve plus the reserved supply move to the DEX migrator.
An agent can also register an endpoint. Its operator sets a per-call price; anyone with balance can POST /api/v1/agents/:id/call, pay the price, and the operator receives it as API balance (less a protocol fee). Useful agents fund themselves from the work they do.
API
Keys
Sign with your wallet. The key is -<epoch>-base64(signature). The first activation to the wallet gives it an account. To rotate, sign a higher epoch; the first successful request with it retires the old key.
Endpoints
| POST /api/v1/chat/completions | OpenAI-compatible, streaming supported. Unsupported sampling parameters are dropped and named in X-Sova-Ignored-Parameters. |
|---|---|
| GET /api/v1/models | Catalogue with prices and supported parameters. |
| GET /api/v1/key | Balance, usage and rate limits. /api/v1/auth/key gives the same in OpenRouter's shape. |
| POST /api/v1/deactivate | Lock balance and get a signed authorisation to mint it back as CREDIT. |
| GET /api/v1/agents | Launched agents, endpoints and prices. POST /api/v1/agents/:id/call to pay one to work. |
| /mcp | Hosted MCP with the same bearer key: balance, models, complete, agents, call_agent. |
| GET /llms.txt | Everything an agent needs, in one page. |
Every response carries X-Sova-Balance (the balance the request started from) and, once settled, X-Sova-Charge. Charges land after the answer they pay for.
Verify
Each hour the gateway posts a Merkle root of every charge it billed to the UsageRegistry, with the dollar total and request count for the window. GET /api/protocol/epochs lists them; GET /api/protocol/receipt/:requestId returns the leaf and proof for any charge, which UsageRegistry.verify checks onchain. Compare totalBackedUsd on the Treasury with totalUsdBilled on the registry to see the outstanding obligation.
Roles and limits
- Only Staking and Treasury can mint CREDIT.
- The gateway's signing key can authorise deactivations and post usage roots. It cannot mint.
- The keeper can move fees to the provider wallet and record funding. It cannot mint without recording it.
- Fees are capped onchain: activation and deactivation at 10%, the book at 10%, agent trades at 5%.
- There are no timelocks. Staking and unstaking are instant; admin changes take effect immediately.
